Alpaca fleece is a luxurious, natural fiber renowned for its exceptional softness, warmth, and resilience. Sourced from alpacas in the Andes, this hypoallergenic material has a unique low environmental impact and is a cornerstone of Andean cultural heritage.

The environmental impact of alpaca is remarkably low due to the animal's gentle nature. Alpacas have soft, padded feet that don't damage the land, and they graze without pulling up roots, allowing plants to regenerate. Their lanolin-free fleece also requires significantly less water and fewer chemicals to process than sheep's wool.

The social and ethical impact, however, is a critical concern. The livelihoods of millions of Andean farmers depend on alpaca fiber. Choose brands that prioritize Fair Trade and work directly with the cooperatives to ensure farmers receive a fair price and a greater share of the profits. Look for the Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS) certification to verify that the fiber was produced with high standards for animal welfare and land management.
